This little boy’s name is Mitchell Wilson. Even after suffering the loss of his mother and being diagnosed with muscular dystrophy, he was bullied relentlessly, even to the point of being violently assaulted. He killed himself the day before he was supposed to start 6th grade.
You can read the story here.
I don’t want to come across as an emotionless prick, but I usually don’t feel too much when I see sob stories like these. I’ll admit that this one has really shaken me to my core. What the hell did that little boy every do to anyone to deserve this? I mean, did he not already have enough on his plate? I know I ought to take the high road in this instance, but I have very little mercy for bullies. I’ve been bullied, and I know all the horrible emotions that come with being a victim.
Apparently, it’s likely there won’t be any charges against the bully in question, but I hope he realizes what he’s done and what he is. I hope he never forgets it, no matter how hard he tries. He doesn’t deserve to forget.
More importantly, I hope people can learn from this and realize that bullying is NOT just “kid stuff”. People can be permanently fucked up or even lose their lives due to this sort of harassment and there should be absolutely 0 tolerance for this sort of behavior. Realize the power of your actions and words, people. You have a choice, and you can either build up or destroy.
Rest in Peace, Mitchell.
